Heather and Jake visit-fall break 2012

Heather and Jake came down for fall break and Heather stayed here while Jake
flew in and out for a dental school interview in Michigan.
Heather cut these stencils and we made pillows for Halloween.

We also did a little sewing, Heather made this shirt and I sewed my pillows.
Saturday we went to Pumpkin land.
This is Heathers "excited to show Jake a childhood memory face."  I should have taken a picture of her "disappointed face" when we rounded the corner and saw that pumpkin-land is now $4 each- it was always just a free place to take the kids and get a dollar pumpkin! And that's about all it's worth- it's just a dirt trail with pumpkin photo ops and swings! I think Jake was OK with missing it.
When Jake got back we went to Heaps ( Brick Oven)-he had never been there, the five of us shared two feasts for two and had lots of leftovers to take home!

Gary goes to photo conference in Logan...

...and Carol and Heather play all day while Jake studies and works.

Our main activity was dying white pants with jade green and robin egg blue  fiber reactive dyes.
We rode the bus with all our supplies (I think we looked like cleaning ladies on our way to work),
to do this in Heather's art class room (just in case), but everything went well!
Since we slept in Heather and Jake's living room we spent our hotel money on going out to dinner every night. This is a picture at The Owl, the only place we checked out and didn't eat at! No pictures of Texas Roadhouse, giant burritos at Cafe Sabor or  the underground pizza place.

Table upcycle

I bought this table at Savers for 9.99. I (with the help of Gary who cannot let go of a spray paint can once you hand it to him) sanded it down, painted it and changed the handle. It took 3 cans of spray paint to cover the green, so when you do a project like this, figure in the cost of the paint too!

Notice those little knob things are gone too, Gary thought they looked like like buttons and sanded them off!

Las Vegas to CA April 2012

Last week-end Gary went to the Long Beach Grand Prix.
We started the week-end in Las Vegas with all-you- can-eat crab at the Rio.
Friday morning Gary left for CA. Tammy and I bought a washing machine. Then we couldn't figure out how to get these sweet couches home from DI so we left them there. After I decided I really did want them enough to find a way to pick them up Tammy went back for them, and they were gone.
 We did an art project.

On Saturday we went to UCLA to watch Lacey run. We drove through a snow storm to get to perfect shirt sleeves weather. We met up with Gary on the way back.

Random stuff

A little amateur artwork-the first one I made while on hold with amazon, the second two I made during General conference, I decided to make something orange. Both times I could only use stuff on my desk (most of my art supplies are downstairs). I have to make up little rules like that or there are too many ideas to get any one thing done. The little cards are ATC's for a swap in my water color class, the lesson was on washes. Here are also some pictures of our family room with a picture (unfinished) hung a quilt finished and some curtains. We are making slow progress !

Hammered metal earrings

My friend Stacee and I made these on Wednesday, now that we've practiced a little we could do it pretty fast I think! The hardest part was forcing ourselves to choose beads without running to the store!

Feb. -March artsy stuff

Trying to draw a lot of faces quickly-doing it on scrap paper so I don't feel like they have to be perfect.

Homework for my Cathy Johnson water color class.

Painted this one with a children's water color set, couldn't get the light yellow-green, but hey -99 cents -right?

Look what fun I had making my own Chinese Chops (personal stamps) Well I 'm not going to Hong Kong anytime soon, and not paying $60 to order one either, so another 99cent project! Except Alice gave me the erasers for free! Just get an Exacto knife and hope your initials are as easy as mine!
